Women Work in the Cabbage Field
Faces veiled,
arms in flowing sleeves,
shade the sun.
Flashes of metal
glint as each
head
is cut and bagged
by the efficient team.
The rustle of the tight leaves
sound plastic
in the midst of the serene field.
Deep brown contrasts the cabbage,
the strong scent of the plant
freshens
the breeze
over the neat, compact rows.
They reach row's end
and turn to start
on the next.
